JANE G. OWENS, DVM, Phd, Dipl ACVCP

PRE-CLINICAL & CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES & CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY 

Jane G Owens, DVM, PhD, Dipl ACVCP is an industry expert in pharmaceutical product development with 25+ years of expertise in all stages of animal health R&D for global companion animal, equine and food animal small molecules and biotherapeutics. She has deep expertise in veterinary clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and in the development of pre-clinical efficacy models in all major veterinary species. She is also seasoned in creating collaborative partnerships with Contract Research Organizations, academia, startups, external funding sources and key opinion leaders. 

 

In her career, she has delivered commercially successful global products for companion animals, equine and food animals using traditional and accelerated approaches and has worked in therapeutic areas such as dermatology, pain, oncology, cardiovascular/renal, metabolic diseases, infectious disease, and gastroenterology. She has held numerous leadership positions in veterinary organizations including president of the Veterinary Pharmacology Research Foundation, president of the American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, chair of the Animal Health Institute Anthelmintic MDR subcommittee and leadership of American Veterinary Medical Association and American Association of Equine Practitioner committees.

 

Jane most recently held Senior Director positions with Elanco along with other various R&D leadership positions during her 19 years with the company. She also held numerous R&D positions with Pfizer Animal Health and was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She continues to manage her own small horse breeding farm and leads her own consulting firm focused on veterinary drug development, JGO Consulting, LLC.

 

Jane received a BS in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky, a DVM from Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine, and a PhD in Veterinary Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology from Louisiana State University. She completed her post-Doctoral fellowship at the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology and is boarded in Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology.
